Tina Thompson, Executive Artistic Director -

Tina Thompson has served as the FOUNDER/Executive Artistic Director of SKIN- THE TINA THOMPSON DANCE COMPANY. She is noted for performing the first Fitness Routine en Pointe. Performed in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Rio Hotel for Ms. Fitness USA & Ms Fitness World. She is the Choreographer/Producer and Creator of  The 'Perple Planet' and Josephine's Cotton- The Revue (A  Musical).
 

Tina Thompson (Staten Island, New York) began her training at LIDAKA Dance Company.  She then studied at the Alvin Ailey and the Martha Graham Schools of Dance as a merit scholarship. Tina was the first choreographic award recipient for the Welcome back to Brooklyn festival at 17 years of age. As well as being one of the youngest choreographers to ever receive this award she was an ACT-SO Scholarship recipient for 'DEPTHS OF AGONY'.  Alumni of the Erasmus Performing Arts High School and Academy of the Arts (from where she graduated early with honors), she went on to the world prestigious and infamous Juilliard School of dance. She was received a full Irving Ruckens Scholarship at age 17 BFA Program). She was chosen as a lead dancer in the Juilliard Cross Cultural tour. by Maria Grandy.   She was given a distinguished professional training scholarship at the Dance Theatre of Harlem while attending The Juilliard School of the Arts.  She has trained with Bessie Elmer, Walter Raines, Alfredo Corvino and Loel Smith.  She has performed at City Center, Metropolitan Opera House, Alice Tully Hall, Symphony Space, Ailey CitiGroup Theatre, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, throughout Romania and Russia. 
Tina continued her degree studies at LIU Brooklyn Campus in Exercise Physiology.  Tina has taught dance for the Brooklyn Arts council and A.S.P.I.R.A.  She has been an award recipient for the National Endowment of the Arts in Dance. Tina has served as a dance captain for Long Island University Cheerleading and Pep-Squad’s and is a former Professional AFL and NBA cheerleader herself. She has performed works with many Modern dance pioneers such as Martha Graham Anna Sokolow and Ethel Winters. 
Mrs. Thompson is a 2009 Excellence in the Arts /COASHI DCA Art Fund Grant Recipient for (Choreography Awards)- 'ECCENTRICA- THE SKIN PROJECT" & SUMMERFEST 2009 for her renown piece entitled ROB. Her extensive background in Contemporary dance gives her the edge that is needed in today’s ever growing world of fitness. Currently she is in the studio working on her newest premiere Jungian Fruits and Sacred Places Project for the SKIN 2019 season. Her work has been presented for the HATCH Project with Jeniffer Muller/ The Works Spring Season 2019.

Her extensive background in Contemporary dance gives her the edge that is needed in today’s ever growing world of Theatre, Dance and fitness. Currently she is in the studio working on her newest premiere  Documentary 'Dance in the New World' and Off Broadway Revue JOSEPHINE'S COTTON.  Her newest work Jungian Fruits and Sacred Places was a completed Project for the SKIN 2019 season. Her work has been presented for the Staten Island Cultural Arts and Music Hall.

She has performed at City Center, Metropolitan Opera House, Alice Tully Hall, Symphony Space, The Apollo, Rio Hotel Las Vegas,  Ailey CitiGroup Theatre, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center,  throughout Romania and Russia. Tina has taught dance for the NYID, High Schools, Brooklyn Arts council and A.S.P.I.R.A.  She is an award recipient for the National Endowment of the Arts in Dance.

Tina is a certified group fitness professional, pilaballet instructor, personal trainer and exercise movement Therapist in New York City. She helps spread her knowledge by teaching workshops and directing her dance theater and fitness events throughout the city. She has contributed to many charities and organizations with great causes for children and adults. Tina loves sharing her knowledge and skills with the dance and fitness communities. Executive director of SKIN- The Tina Thompson Dance Company (established in 2003). The company is based in New York City and Thompson's works have graced the stage of Blumenthal Arts Center, Ailey Citi-Corp Theater, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Symphony Space , New York Institute for Dance Education, Aaron Davis Hall.

SKIN DANCE company is vehicle for artistic value and self expression through the language of movement arts. Having choreographed over 22 Modern-Ballet works/ Thompson's choreography touches matters of the emotions and the state of the world politically, sociologically and spiritually. Tina Thompson helps spread her knowledge of her created Dance Fitness Fusions by teaching dance workshops and fitness events. She has been a leader in the Competitive Fitness world since 1998. She has numerous titles in World/ National Fitness and physique competition's. Thompson has represented MS.FITNESS USA and MS. FITNESS WORLD as an professional competitor for the United States.

SENIOR ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR-

Natasha DeVaughn-Rigby (New York)  began her training in dance, vocal, and drama at the Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center in Queens.  She studied at the Joffrey School, Madame Darvash Ballet School, The Alvin Ailey School and the Martha Graham School, where she was awarded a four year scholarship.  She has performed at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music & Carnegie Hall with famous artists such as Diana Ross, Ben Vereen, Christian Holder, Chuck Davis and the late choreographer Michael Peters.  An alumnus of Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Performing Arts, she went on to New York University's- Tisch School of the Arts, where she received her BFA in Fine Arts.  As an educator in dance, physical education and art history, Natasha worked in the New York City Department of Education from 1995 to 1998.  In 1995, with the partnership of her late mother, Louise DeVaughn, Natasha opened a local dance school in the Bronx community.  Currently she is a teaching artist for Ailey Arts in Education & Community Programs where she facilitates "Revelations Curriculum"  in England and around the country.  Natasha has been the Associate Director of CAS/Ailey Camp in New York in 2004 & Ailey Camp Staten Island 2010.  Natasha has worked with the Tina Thompson Dance Company for 10 years and has served as associate rehearsal director for three years.  She will be working more artistically with the Director as a co-choreographer in many facets this coming year.

Associate Director-

Josef Woodson graduated from the University of Michigan in 1995 with a Bachelors of Dance Arts Degree. In New York City, he studied ballet, jazz, and modern dance at the Joffrey School, the Ailey school and at Steps on Broadway. Josef went on to dance with AILEY II (formerly repertory ensemble), where he performed works by Alvin Ailey, Ron Brown, Shen Wei, and Shapiro & Smith, among others. He also worked with Donald Byrd as a member of Donald Byrd/The Group in 1998. In 2000, Josef directed a documentary on AIDS/HIV entitled, POSITIVE FOR LIFE. Josef also directed and produced the documentary SECOND SKIN. This documentary featured the dancers of AILEY II and the ballet Quintet choreographed by Mr. Ailey in 1968. SECOND SKIN was shown at the 2002 San Francisco Black Film Festival. Mr. Woodson completed his graduate work in Film Production and Directing at the University of Miami in 2001.

In addition, Mr. Woodson has taught modern dance, jazz, tap, and hip-hop throughout the United States and abroad. Notably, Mr. Woodson taught at Aileycamp Staten Island in 2009. He also was an Alvin Ailey Performing Artist for the New York Board of Education, and currently teaches at Queensborough Community College. In 2008, Mr. Woodson choreographed overseas as a guest artist at Breath Performing Arts in Tokyo, Japan.  Mr. Woodson has served as rehearsal director with SKIN for 9 Years.

 Josef is the Associate Director of the SKIN Dance
Company and has ben a member of SKIN for 9 years. He
is a Teaching Artist for Disney Theatrical Group which
produces Frozen, Aladdin and the Lion King on Broadway.
In addition, Josef has taught for the Dance Theater of
Harlem as a Teaching Artist and is currently is a group
fitness coordinator at Crunch Gym and an adjunct
professor at Queensborough Community College,
teaching modern and musical theater dance. Josef
received his Bachelor of Dance Arts from the University of
Michigan and is certified in Zumba, TRX, Pilates Mat, and
the Pilaballet technique.
